sources: Berries, apples, red kidney beans,
black grapes, peaches, cinnamon, spinach, broccoli,
potatoes, nuts, kidney, liver and Tumeric (in curry
powder) are all rich in antioxidants. Vitamin E and
Vitamin C are
brain antioxidants.
Brain antioxidant
effects: Antioxidants supplements have been
shown to increase brain plasticity and benefit learning
and memory performance. Antioxidants can be taken as
brain health
supplements.
Antioxidants in spinach, broccoli
& potatoes have been shown to reduce cognitive
decline in patients with Alzheimer's
disease.
Vitamin E (found in vegetable oils, nuts
and green leafy vegetables) has been shown to
improve brain function during
aging.
The curry
spice curcumin (turmeric)
- a traditional
food preservative and medicinal herb in
India, has been
shown to
reduce memory deficits with Alzheimer's. Given the high
consumption of turmeric in India, it may account for the
low prevalence of Alzheimer's disease in that
country.
