Research shows us that your IQ (a measure of your general intelligence level) has a very high impact on educational achievement - more of an impact than any other factor. (References)

Its impact can be understood in terms of a useful statistic called a correlation -a measure from 0 to 1.0 of the 'link' or strength of a relationship between two variables - e.g. IQ level and GPA. A correlation of 0 means there is no link; a correlation of >.50 is a strong link. There are correlations between IQ level every key measure of educational & academic achievement.

Education level & career prospects: Beat the 1:50 odds with a high IQ

A higher level of education paves the way for high prestige jobs where the work is challenging & complex, but rewarding. Education level, occupation level and income are closely linked. Competition for top tier jobs for university graduates is intense. The average number of graduates chasing every job on offer in 2009 in the UK is 50:1. A high IQ level gives you a critical edge in this competition.

In the US, higher IQs take up university majors that equip them for higher paid jobs.

In the US it has been shown that the highest-earning college majors (e.g. Finance) have incomes approximately three times that of the lowest majors (Education). And there is a strong link (correlation of .62) between average SAT scores in each major and graduate earnings.
